StudyFin- Financial support to reduce school dropouts in Maharashtra

At Thinksharp Foundation, we are successfully running project StudyMall in 28 villages in 28 rural schools across Maharashtra,India . Through StudyMall we are helping approximately 5000 rural children by providing them books, digital learning and other better educational infrastructure.

While working in rural areas, we closely observed lack of financial resource is one of the critical reason for discontinuing education. One of the major cause of dropouts in secondary schools in rural areas, is lack of financial support. This led us to launch our  new project “StudyFin”.

StudyFin project supports to financially disadvantaged children to pursue secondary education (9th to 12th Std) and vocational education. Special emphasis is for the girls who cannot pursue or have dropped out of the school due to financial constraints. This will help rural children for completion of the basic and vocational education.  This will increase there chance of earning money and becoming self-sustainable by being able to earn livelihood. StudyFin offers financial assistance in terms of fees up-to Rs.15,000/- per year, until course completion.

Our eligibility criteria is parental income from all sources should be less than Rs.2,50,000/- for the year. Special preference to children who have shown strong desire to learn. Eligible Courses 9th to 12th Std school education, ITI, Polytechnic and other short term vocational courses.

Our expectation from  children who will become part of our StudyFin program is that, they should provide commitment to share regular performance report as per our terms and conditions. And they should have desire to give back to society meaning children who are beneficiaries of our project, after their desired progression in career, they should donate for our project to further help other financially disadvantaged children in similar manner.

You can also become our partner organisation, supporter, volunteer and you can choose to donate for our cause.

This  School is started by a very dynamic couple and social entrepreneurs themselves Mr and Mrs Munde. They both have two talented children Pratik and Varad,  and they realized  they had to send there eldest Son Pratik to a town place to study in English medium. This created an impact on both of them and it put them in direct contact with the problems faced by parents who are forced to send children to towns and cities for better educational facilities.  To overcome this , they are running a State approved English School in a small village Panodi, which is in Tq-Sangamner, Dist Ahmednagar (40 km from Shirdi ) Maharashtra, India. There youngest son Varad is studying in same school in 4th std.
The school is a 2 storey building with lights tubes fans and ample ground with playground. They are trying best to upgrade school infrastructure everyday. School has total 167 students from 1st to 5 th std. The staff (approx 8 teachers in total)  is highly qualified and motivated to educate and teach this talented set of children.
On 15 Aug 2017, Team Thinksharp Foundation attended Independence day event Balpan English school.  We were highly convinced by there dedication and commitment for betterment of educational infrastructure and hence decided to help them more from our side.
On 02 Dec 2017, we formally launched StudyMall in this school. This StudyMall project provides them with Digital projector which is solar based and has all the needed academic contents plus non academic extracurricular contents for interactive learning. We aim to help them more in long term by providing them more learning tools as they need.

Bringing social change with the help of social media SM4E2017

On 05 and 06 Oct 2017 we, Thinksharp Foundation had an opportunity to attend a workshop organised by Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) (Read about there amazing work at http://defindia.org/).  On behalf of ThinkSharp Foundation team, I was privileged to attend the workshop.

This workshop was organised in a beautiful location by DEF’S SM4E2017 team (SM4E is social media for empowerment, Read about them at http://sm4e.org/). Th workshop was at Sanskriti Kendra Anandgram, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, A nand Gram, New Delhi, Delhi.

While we all use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many other social media tools to stay connected with our friends and family. There are organisations who use them to help society and to bring change in society . DEF is one such international organisation who connects, educates, and creates awareness regarding digital empowerment of masses. They also connect and help other NGO, Social enterprise and organisations  who are trying to integrate digital media in bringing social change.

We were humbled and proud when we were chosen to be one of the attendees of this powerful workshop.

The workshop identified the need of social media tools needed by NGO and social impact creating organisations. If organisations like us want to reach wider audience in terms of beneficiaries or donors we have to have strong social media content and strategy. However many of us are lacking  in terms of skilled manpower or finances to spend on social media only.

This workshop provided us with practical tools and knowledge on how to address this limitation by creating content for social media with available human resource and funds. The topics included “creating social media content”, “Marketing and promotion on social media”, “Best practices in Digital marketing” and content creation on social media”. Apart from this structured topics the workshop provided opportunity to learn from each other.

Various representatives (founders, social media strategist) from other organisations who are doing a great job in bringing social change were present . I had a great learning from there experience.  To name few i provide there Facebook link, if you need a positivity dose read about there inspiring work.

We are doing our best to apply this social media tools and leanings of workshop to reach more and more rural children and provide them better educational infrastructure. If you believe in helping us, like our Facebook page, Instagram, twitter, you tube and spread our work on your social media accounts.
